Don't Just Fund the Convoy. Drive It.

A limited number of crew places are open on the next convoy. You drive a medical evacuation 4x4 from London across Europe and hand it over, loaded with medical supplies, to the people of Ukraine. Your crew contribution part-funds the vehicle you deliver.

πŸ“… Timing: the next convoy is expected to depart at the end of February 2027. It is in the planning stages now, so dates may shift. We confirm the departure window with accepted crew well before anyone books leave or travel.

A Volunteer Crew Place That Becomes a Medical Evacuation Vehicle

This is not a tour, and your contribution is not a donation: it is a required contribution that part-funds the purchase of a 4x4 medical evacuation vehicle, plus the fuel and logistics to get it there. You are not a passenger on a trip. You are a volunteer crew member who personally drives that aid to Ukraine. When the convoy reaches Lviv, the vehicle stays and goes to work saving lives. You come home knowing you took it there yourself.

Volunteer crew drive the 4x4s. If ambulances travel with the convoy, they are driven by Ukrainian drivers.

Alongside your contribution, you book and pay for your own accommodation at the convoy's overnight stops, directly with each hotel. Budget around Β£500. We share the route's recommended stops and negotiate group rates, but the booking is yours.

Your contribution funds

  • βœ“ A share of the purchase of a 4x4 medical evacuation vehicle for frontline medics, which is handed over in Ukraine
  • βœ“ The medical supplies packed into it
  • βœ“ Convoy logistics: fuel, tolls, route planning, border coordination and ground support
  • βœ“ Pre-departure briefings, convoy comms and your crew place, driving in rotation from London to Lviv

You arrange and pay for yourself

  • βœ• Accommodation at overnight stops, booked and paid directly with each hotel (budget around Β£500; we share recommended stops and group rates)
  • βœ• Specialist travel insurance valid for Ukraine. Standard travel insurance is invalidated by FCDO advice, so war-risk cover from a specialist insurer is mandatory. We will point you to providers used by aid volunteers.
  • βœ• Food and personal expenses on the road
  • βœ• Getting to the London start point, and your journey home after the handover in Lviv
  • βœ• A 1968 International Driving Permit, and visa or passport costs if any apply to you

We keep this list honest so you can budget properly. If you are unsure about any cost, ask us.

This Is Not a Holiday

The convoy ends in Lviv, in western Ukraine, a country at war. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises against all but essential travel to Lviv and against all travel to other parts of Ukraine. Strikes can and do happen in the western regions, including Lviv. The FCDO cannot evacuate you from Ukraine and the British Embassy cannot help you in person. You need to read the current FCDO advice yourself and make your own adult decision.

Every crew member is vetted before a place is confirmed, including driving record checks. Every crew member signs a participation agreement, arranges specialist war-risk insurance, and attends briefings. We plan carefully, we travel with experienced leadership under a named convoy leader with final go/no-go authority, and we do not take unnecessary risks. But we will not pretend the risk is zero, and we will not take anyone who treats it like a stag do.

If you have read all of that and you still feel the pull, you are exactly who we are looking for.

How a Crew Place Is Confirmed

1
You apply. When applications open you tell us who you are, what you can drive and why you want to come. No payment is taken at that stage.
2
We talk. A video call with the convoy team. We check licences, experience and expectations, and you get to ask us anything.
3
Your place is confirmed. Accepted crew receive payment details for the Β£2,000 Vehicle & Mission Contribution, the recommended accommodation list to book directly, the insurance requirements and the kit list.
4
We prepare together. Briefings, route plans, vehicle allocation and meet-ups before departure day.
5
We drive. London to Lviv, together, and you hand your vehicle to the people who need it.

Details Coming Soon

We are not taking crew applications yet. The next convoy is in planning for the end of February 2027, and we are working through vehicle sourcing, insurance and the participation paperwork before we open places.

If you want to be told the moment applications open, email us at info@medariaaid.com with "Convoy crew" in the subject line, and we will come back to you first.
